Bilingual & Multilingual Learning.

KSI Montenegro has been recognised and awarded the status of a Bilingual & Multilingual SMART School; an honour bestowed upon a small number of schools globally that demonstrate commitment to better understand and support their bilingual and multilingual learners (BMLs).

Our work in this area – since 2018 – recognises commitment to a whole-school approach that includes certified, research-based training as well as the development of best practice and approaches that make a difference to the lives and learning of our BMLs and their families. It also includes valuing and acknowledging the students’ home languages, cultures and identities. 

The acronym ‘SMART’ represents the essential traits we aim to embrace across our school:

S – SUPPORTIVE (understanding how to support our BMLs in all areas)

M – MULTILINGUALISM (promoting the value of)

A – AWARENESS (understanding the unique needs and issues related to BMLs)

R – RESEARCH (understanding the most relevant, impactful research)

T – TEACHING APPROACHES (learning the best approaches and strategies for BMLs)
