Four Houses, One Day: Inside KSI Montenegro’s 2026 Sports Day

Oct 8, 2026

This Friday, 25th September, the regular timetable gives way to whistles, house colours and a full day of competition as KSI Montenegro holds its 2026 Sports Day. Every student across the Primary Years Programme (PYP) and the Middle Years and Diploma Programmes (MYP/DP) — from Year 1 through to Year 13 — takes part, split across four houses: Blue, Green, Red and Yellow.

This year’s Sports Day also falls inside the European Week of Sport, the EU-wide #BeActive campaign running from 23rd to 30th September across 40 countries. Tivat’s local authorities invited clubs and schools across the municipality to take part, and KSI Montenegro’s Sports Day was an easy fit, giving our students’ competition a place on the European map of activity alongside neighbours across the region.

A full round robin, not a single final

Redesigned this year, the format now puts every house against every other house, in every sport, for both age groups. Four sports — football, basketball, volleyball and kickball — run as eight separate round-robin competitions across the morning, with each house playing twelve matches over the course of the day. Juniors (Year 7–9) and Seniors (Year 10–13) alternate between off-campus pitches and on-campus courts across two blocks, before track and field events and an award ceremony close the day.

The point of the redesign was straightforward: more students play more matches against more of their peers, rather than a handful of students carrying a single decisive game. It is a small structural choice, but the kind of thing that decides whether a Sports Day feels inclusive or feels like a spectator sport for the few.

Year 11 leads, not just plays

Perhaps the most notable change from previous years is who is actually running each house. Year 11 students take on the role of House Leaders, confirming teams at the early morning gathering, keeping mixed-gender participation on court, and knowing the schedule and rules well enough to keep their house on track without adult intervention. It is a small but genuine leadership role, and one that echoes a theme we come back to often at KSI Montenegro: some of the most useful learning happens when older students are given real responsibility for younger ones, not just supervision.

Why we build a day around this

Physical education inside the IB continuum is not treated as a break from academic learning — it is part of it. The PYP and MYP frame physical activity as one of several forms of intelligence that deserve deliberate space in the timetable, alongside collaboration, resilience under pressure and fair play: skills that are far easier to talk about in a classroom than to actually practise on a football pitch with a scoreline against you.

Sports Day is also, quite deliberately, a parent-facing day. Families are invited to watch matches through the morning and join the track and field events and award ceremony in the afternoon, making it one of the few days in the calendar where the whole school community — staff, students and parents — shares the same space at the same time.

If you are considering KSI Montenegro for your family and want a genuine feel for how our community comes together, days like this one are worth asking about directly. Our admissions team is happy to walk you through the school calendar and, where timing allows, invite you to see a day like this for yourself.
