KSI Montenegro Hosts Its Biggest Model United Nations Conference Yet

Jul 6, 2026

KSI Montenegro recently welcomed more than sixty student delegates from six private schools across Montenegro, including representatives from Boka Bay and Podgorica, for the fifth annual KSI Montenegro Model United Nations conference. Held over two days on our Tivat campus, the event brought students together to debate and negotiate solutions to genuinely difficult global issues, and by all accounts it was the most successful MUN conference the school has run to date.

Delegates worked through three committee topics that mirror real debates happening in international forums today: workers’ rights in the digital economy, international food labelling and consumer transparency, and the regulation of military space technology. Each topic asked students to step into the shoes of a country they did not represent in real life, research that country’s actual position, and then defend it through structured debate, negotiation, and compromise.

This is the kind of exercise that looks simple on paper and is genuinely demanding in practice. Students had to read policy briefs, anticipate counterarguments, build coalitions with delegates from other schools they had just met, and adjust their strategy in real time when a resolution was not going their way. It is diplomacy, public speaking, and critical thinking, all compressed into two days.

Model United Nations is a natural fit for an IB school. The IB Diploma Programme already asks students to think across disciplines and beyond national borders, and MUN gives that thinking a stage. Hosting the conference also means KSI Montenegro becomes a meeting point for ambitious students from across the country.

The conference was organised and run by KSI Montenegro students. Students managed logistics, chaired committees, and kept the schedule on track across two full days, picking up skills in organisation and leadership that do not show up on a transcript but matter just as much as anything that does.

Congratulations to every delegate who took part, and particular thanks to the students who organised and ran the conference itself. Watching them lead a room full of their peers, and peers from other schools, through complex global issues is exactly the kind of experience an IB education is meant to produce.
