Different Countries, One Community: Inside KSI Montenegro’s International Week 2026

Oct 16, 2026

From Monday 19th to Friday 23rd October, the regular timetable at KSI Montenegro makes way for a different kind of lesson, one that runs across every programme, every classroom and, by the end of the week, right through the school canteen. International Week 2026 is built around a single idea: **Montenegro Brings Us Together** — a theme chosen to capture something that is true of our community every day of the year, not just this one.

With families and staff connected to dozens of different countries, KSI Montenegro’s student body is, in the truest sense, international. International Week is the moment we turn that fact into a shared project rather than a simple statistic on a school profile page.

Building one map, country by country

At the centre of the week is a large World Map, built by hand in the school canteen over the first four days and left on display as the central feature of Thursday’s assembly. Each programme contributes a different layer of work to it:

  • PYP students draw flags, collect the word “hello” in every language spoken across our school community, and illustrate a traditional food for each country represented.
  • MYP students research three facts their classmates should know about a country, paired with one characteristic word or phrase in its language.
  • DP students profile one significant person — a scientist, artist, athlete or historical figure — who has shaped their country or contributed to the wider world.

By Thursday, the map carries borders, flags, greetings, food, facts and short biographies built entirely by students, across every year group in the school — a visual record of just how many places our community calls home.

An assembly that ends in Montenegro

Thursday’s assembly, led by a group of students representing different nationalities within the school, opens with a flag parade and the Montenegrin national anthem before moving through short student-led segments on language, culture and what connects an international community. The assembly deliberately ends the same way the week does: with the stage, and the map, handed over to our Montenegrin students, who close proceedings with a look at the land, history, culture and hospitality of our host country.

It is a structure that mirrors the IB’s own concept of international-mindedness: an appreciation of one’s own culture and identity as the foundation for understanding everyone else’s, not a substitute for it.

A Food Festival open to the whole community

International Week closes on Friday 23rd October with a Food Festival in the school grounds from 12:00 to 14:00, where families bring a dish from home to share with the wider school community, alongside music from the school band and a visiting Tivat music school. It is one of the more informal days on our calendar, and one of the most telling: it is hard to find a clearer picture of an international school community than parents from a dozen different countries setting out food on the same tables, in the same school, in Montenegro.

Why we build a week around this

International-mindedness is one of the IB’s core aims across the Primary Years, Middle Years and Diploma Programmes, but it is easy for that phrase to stay abstract. International Week is our attempt to make it concrete and, crucially, student-led: the research, the artwork and the hosting are done by students, for students, rather than presented to them.

For families already part of our community, it is a week that puts the diversity of our school on full display. For families considering a move to Montenegro and weighing up international schools, it is as good an answer as any to what “international” actually looks like day to day — not just on an admissions brochure, but on a canteen wall, built one country at a time.

If you would like to see KSI Montenegro’s community in person, our admissions team is happy to arrange a visit — including, where timing allows, during a week like this one.
